Unemployment rate stays at 3.2% in Q1 2025

This figure has remained unchanged since December 2024.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged in Q1 2025 since December 2024 at 3.2%, the Census & Statistics Department reported.

Total employment stood at 3,692,700, down 16,800 from December 2024 to February 2025, whilst the labour force also dropped 5,800 to 3,815,500. The underemployment rate remained at 1.1%.

The number of unemployed people increased from 111,700 to 122,800 whilst the number of underemployed people increased from 40,700 to 42,700.

“The increasingly uncertain external environment due to escalated trade conflicts may weigh on hiring sentiment in some sectors,” Chris Sun, secretary for Labour and Welfare said.

“Nonetheless, the continued growth of the Mainland economy, supported by the central government's boosting policies, alongside the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's various policy measures to continuously promote economic growth and support enterprises, are expected to provide support to labour demand,” he added.
