Hang Seng Indexes Company wins at Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026

The company deployed generative AI for index calculation, reducing processing time, expanding data capacity, and lowering manual workload. 

Hang Seng Indexes Company won the AI - Financial Services category at the Hong Kong  Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for its AI Data Manager (FAF.ai) for index calculation. The project applied generative AI to the calculation process for the Hang Seng  Family of Indexes, including the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, and  Hang Seng TECH Index. 

The initiative originated from the Index Innovation Lab, a collaboration between Hang Seng  Bank and Cyberport. Working with Cyberport Community member INF Hong Kong, Hang Seng  Indexes Company developed a generative AI solution to calculate the free-float adjusted factor  (FAF), which indicates the proportion of a listed company’s shares available for public trading. 

Previously, FAF calculation required an extensive analytics process to gather and consolidate information from company announcements, annual reports, and exchange data. With the adoption of the new solution, the FAF workflow is automated and divided into individual tasks,  including entity recognition, relationship extraction, and indicator calculation, with customised toolchains assigned to each stage. This converts unstructured information into structured inputs for calculation. 

As a result, data processing capability and operational efficiency have improved, whilst ensuring accuracy, enabling the company to respond swiftly to the fast-changing stock market environment.
