HK to fund 10,000 youth jobs from 2027 under 30,000-place programme

The programme covers jobs, internships and construction training over two years from 2027.

Hong Kong is set to provide an additional 10,000 full-time jobs for young people newly entering the workforce within a two-year period starting from the first quarter of 2027.

The initiative, which is under the government and the business sector's two-year 30,000 Youth Employment and Internship Programme, will tap relevant stakeholders, such as major employer and trade associations.

As reported in the chief executive's policy address, the jobs will last six months or more, with the government covering $6,000 per month or up to one-third of the monthly salary, for six months.

For interns, the enhanced STEM Internship Scheme and the HYAB Youth Start-up Internship Programme will provide more than 10,000 internship opportunities. Each participant will receive a subsidy of no less than $11,000.

In 2027 and 2028, the government and Construction Industry Council will extend the on-the-job training subsidy scheme for professional graduates of relevant disciplines. A total of 10,000 training places will be offered over two years, with each participant receiving a monthly salary subsidy of $5,000.

Meanwhile, the Financial Services Development Council will launch a two-year Financial Services Industry Youth Internship Programme to provide 1,000 youth internship placements related to financial services.

The government plans to establish the 'Youth Employment Link' online service portal, where job seekers can access information about the programmes and apply for vacancies.

It will also launch the Shanghai-Hong Kong Youth Employment Scheme.
