The infrastructure will deliver a better Internet surfing experience, higher resolution on streamed mobile content and improved interactivity along with other wireless applications.
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, and Genius Brand Limited (“Genius Brand”), a joint venture between Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (“HTCL”) and Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) Limited (“HKT”), on Wednesday officially signed the contract for the deployment of one of the biggest and best Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in Hong Kong during the National 12th Five-Year Plan and Economic, Trade and Financial Co-operation and Development between the Mainland China and Hong Kong Forum.
In addition, Huawei has also signed agreements with HTCL and HKT respectively on the evolution of their core networks to the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) specification, while providing them with other solutions for network resources management and end-to-end user experience QoE management.
Mr. Yang Shu, President of Huawei South East Asia Region, said: “According to GSA’s (The Global Mobile Suppliers Association) latest Evolution to LTE report, half of the commercial LTE networks worldwide have used Huawei’s SingleRAN LTE solution. With its innovative end-to-end solution and global track record in LTE network deployment, Huawei is committed to making this project a success.”
Mr. Alex Arena, Group Managing Director of PCCW Limited, said: “This advanced technology will deliver a better Internet surfing experience, higher resolution on streamed mobile content and improved interactivity along with other wireless applications which require high bandwidth requirements. Huawei's cutting-edge technology will enable us to rapidly achieve our objective of building one of the biggest and best next-generation mobile networks in Hong Kong and providing our customers with the best possible mobile broadband Internet experience.”
Mr. Peter Wong, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited, said: “We are pleased to have selected Huawei as the strategic partner to build the new citywide LTE network. Coupled with our advanced and integrated mobile and fixed-line infrastructure, the new network will well position us to provide high speed data services with potential download speed of over 100 Mbps and enhanced fixed-mobile convergence services in the future, further strengthening our leading position in the telecom industry.”
Mr. Tiger Lu, Chief Representative, Hong Kong Representative Office of Huawei, said: “Huawei has been in the Hong Kong telecoms market for more than a decade; we fully understand the market and our customers’ needs. Our customized, innovative solutions, coupled with our unrivaled global track record in LTE network deployment, enable our customers to succeed in the market. We are delighted that Genius Brand has chosen our end-to-end LTE solutions. We are confident that we will deploy one of the most superior LTE networks for Genius Brand, providing unparalleled LTE services to mobile users in Hong Kong.”
With a population of over seven million, Hong Kong is not only one of the most populous cities in the world, but also a fiercely competitive telecom market with high customer expectations on quality and efficiency. Huawei’s industry-leading SingleRAN LTE solution will implement MOCN (Multiple Operator Core Network) for Genius Brand, allowing HTCL and HKT to gain competitive edge in greatly reduced cost and time to market through sharing resources of the radio network and network spectrum while having two separate core networks, as mentioned in a Huawei report.
