New HKEX-S&P DJI joint index tracks US and Hong Kong equities
The index allocates 60% to the HKEX Tech 100 and 40% to the S&P 500.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has unveiled a co-branded index with S&P Dow Jones Indices tracking leading US-listed companies and major Hong Kong-listed technology firms.
The S&P 500 & HKEX Tech 100 Index allocates approximately 60% to the HKEX Tech 100 Index and 40% to the S&P 500, with quarterly rebalancing.
The index, launched on 30 September, is designed to support the potential inclusion of exchange-traded funds tracking it in Southbound Stock Connect.
It will facilitate portfolio diversification and cross-market capital flows by providing exposure to both US and Hong Kong equities through one benchmark.
The HKEX Tech 100 Index, introduced in December 2025, tracks the largest Hong Kong-listed companies with significant exposure to artificial intelligence, biotech and pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles and smart driving, information technology, internet, and robotics.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 comprises 500 leading US companies and covers approximately 85% of available US market capitalisation.
As of the end of 2025, approximately $180.5t (US$23t) in assets were indexed or benchmarked to the S&P 500, including around $125.6t (US$16t) in passively managed assets.
