Phase 2 applications for light public housing to open on 24 February
It will include four new LPH projects, providing approximately 5,060 units.
The Housing Bureau (HB) has announced that the Phase 2 application for light public housing (LPH) will open on 24 February. This round of applications will include four new LPH projects, providing approximately 5,060 units.
These projects are located at Olympic Avenue, Kai Tak (Phase 1), Tsing Fuk Lane, Tuen Mun (Tuen Mun Area 3A), Shun On Road, Kwun Tong (renovated from school premises), and Choi Yuen Road, Sheung Shui (renovated from school premises).
The anticipated intake for these units is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
Eligible applicants will receive application forms by post, sent in batches before 24 February. Priority will be given to applications submitted between 24 February and 17 March. Those who applied during Phase 1 do not need to resubmit their applications.
A spokesperson for the HB noted that the Phase 1 application saw an overwhelming response, with approximately 14,200 applications submitted by mid-February.
The spokesperson added that the Yau Pok Road LPH project in Yuen Long is expected to begin intake in March, with applicants who pass eligibility verification gradually receiving their offer letters. Additionally, the spokesperson emphasised that the Phase 2 LPH projects, located in various districts, cater to a range of applicants' needs.
Compared to inadequate housing options like substandard subdivided units, LPH projects offer better living conditions, affordable rents (approximately 90% of the cost of traditional public rental housing in the same area), and additional support services for residents.
General applicants who have been on the public rental housing waiting list for three years or more are eligible to apply, with priority given to family applicants. Completed applications must be submitted by post or in person at designated locations.
The HB will process applications as quickly as possible, prioritising families in need, such as those living in inadequate housing or with special medical conditions, young children, or elderly members.
Details of the Phase 2 projects include: Olympic Avenue, Kai Tak (Phase 1): 2,970 units, rents range from $1,310 to $2,990; Tsing Fuk Lane, Tuen Mun: 1,850 units, rents range from $860 to $1,990; Shun On Road, Kwun Tong (renovated from school): 130 units, rents range from $1,360 to $3,270; and Choi Yuen Road, Sheung Shui (renovated from school): 110 units, rents range from $1,020 to $2,320.
Applicants can submit forms by post to the Housing Bureau's P.O. Box or in person at designated locations. Those registered with "iAM Smart+" can also submit applications electronically. Priority for allocation will be given to families with special needs or living in inadequate housing.
