Gov’t launches the International Organization for Mediation
It will be attended by representatives from 60 countries worldwide.
The government will host the official establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) on 30 May.
The launch ceremony will be attended by senior representatives from around 60 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, as well as delegates from approximately 20 international organisations, including the United Nations.
The initiative to create IOMed was jointly proposed in 2022 by China and around 20 like-minded countries. Following successful negotiations, consensus was reached to set up the organisation’s headquarters in Hong Kong.
IOMed will be the world’s first intergovernmental international legal body focused solely on resolving international disputes through mediation. It is expected to play a key role in promoting peaceful dispute resolution and upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter.
