Hong Kong rises to second in global competitiveness ranking
The city ranked first in tax policy and business legislation, whilst placing second in government efficiency.
Hong Kong rose one place to become the world’s second-most competitive economy in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking.
The result marked Hong Kong’s highest position since 2019 and extended its improvement for a third consecutive year.
Among the four main competitiveness factors assessed, Hong Kong ranked second globally in government efficiency and third in business efficiency.
The city placed eighth in infrastructure and 11th in economic performance.
Hong Kong topped the global rankings for tax policy and business legislation, whilst ranking second in finance.
It also placed third in international trade, international investment, management practices, and education.
Hong Kong ranked fourth in public finance and basic infrastructure.
