
Foreign currency reserves total $3,209.9b in March
This is a slight decrease from$3,236.3b in February.
Hong Kong's official foreign currency reserve assets totalled $3,209.9b (US$413.1b) as of the end of March 2025, a slight decrease from $3,236.3b (US$416.4b) at the end of February 2025, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
When including unsettled foreign exchange contracts, the reserve assets amounted to $3,204.8b (US$412.5b), compared to $3,234.6b (US$415.9b) in February. These reserve assets represent more than five times the currency in circulation and account for approximately 37% of the Hong Kong dollar M3.
In line with its commitment to transparency, the HKMA publishes four press releases on the Exchange Fund’s data each month. These include reports on monetary data following the International Monetary Fund's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS).
For April 2025, the HKMA is scheduled to release the following reports: on 7 April, the SDDS International Reserves report (Hong Kong's Latest Foreign Currency Reserve Assets Figures); on 14 April, the SDDS Analytical Accounts of the Central Bank (Analytical Accounts of the Exchange Fund); on 30 April, the SDDS Template on International Reserves and Foreign Currency Liquidity; and also on 30 April, the Exchange Fund Abridged Balance Sheet and Currency Board Account.
