Specialist conservation architect establishes first overseas office in Hong Kong
Purcell Miller Tritton opened its first office outside western Europe, its Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong.
In setting up its Hong Kong office, Purcell Miller Tritton aims to provide architecture, interior design and masterplanning servicesto Asia-Pacific based clients in 10 areas including cultural, education, hospitality, healthcare, places of worship, public, regeneration, residential, transportation and workplaces.
Other than providing a full service and sector specialisations to clients in Asia Pacific that will complement its UK-based offices' services to clients in Europe, the Hong Kong office will also draw on the company's UK experiences and staff to create bespoke teams for each project.
One of the firm's partners, Mr Roger Wu, will lead the business in Asia.
"We decided to invest in our Hong Kong practice after being appointed to prepare the Conservation Management Plan for the Central Police Station project in 2008 and later as conservation architect in 2010. Together with subsequent architecture, heritage and consultancy projects for public and private clients, the Central Police Station project has provided us with a valuable platform from which to set up ourregional headquarters in Hong Kong and helped to generate a significant profile for the practice in the region," Wu said.
Mr Wu added, "Looking ahead, we are planning to expand our business across Asia Pacific from our regional base in Hong Kong by making good use of its strategic location in the region and enjoying its simple and low tax system."
Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Andrew Davis, said, "Cultural life is a key component of a quality city life. A progressive city treasures its own culture and history along with a living experience unique to the city. Revitalisation, rather than preservation alone, should be pursued to maximise the economic and social benefits of historic buildings. This is in line with the concept of sustainable conservation. We appreciate Purcell Miller Tritton's efforts in helping our city to transform the Central Police Station into a unique cultural landmark and we are delighted to see the establishment of the company's regional headquarters in Hong Kong."
