Sun Life Hong Kong Limited showcases MPF innovation at Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026
Its reference portfolios helped participating users record positive annual returns during the tool’s first year.
Sun Life Hong Kong Limited won the Smart Technology - Financial Services category at the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for MPF Navigator, a digital investment tool designed to help Mandatory Provident Fund members manage their retirement savings. The project placed portfolio guidance within an accessible digital journey and focused on supporting more active investment decisions.
With the full implementation of the eMPF system, Sun Life believes that value-added services, such as digital investment tools, can empower members to make more informed and proactive retirement planning decisions. In response, the company further promoted MPF Navigator, a digital investment tool that combined algorithms with market insights from Sun Life Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited. Based on members’ responses to a simple questionnaire, the tool presents reference portfolios aligned with different investment approaches. This structure gave users a clearer basis for reviewing their options without replacing their responsibility for investment decisions.
The tool also integrates investment guidance with an ongoing digital experience. User activity continued after the initial login, and questionnaire completion indicated that members progressed through the assessment process. These patterns showed that the service moved users beyond general information towards practical portfolio consideration.
The reference portfolio recorded positive annual returns during the tool’s first year. Whilst performance varied across the different portfolio approaches, reflecting their different risk profiles, all 5 categories ended the period with a gain. The outcome results reinforced also supported tthe role of the reference portfolios as a structured and practical aid for retirement planning.
To increase public awareness, the company developed a series of promotional videos highlighting the features and benefits of MPF Navigator. The videos supported the launch and addressed common challenges and concerns faced by MPF investors and illustrated how the tool can support more informed investment decision-making. The campaign expanded awareness of the service and directed attention to its portfolio-guidance features without relying on broad product claims.
The recognition at the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026 reflects the project’s use of technology in retirement investment guidance.
MPF Navigator brought together questionnaire-based profiling, portfolio references, market input, and digital engagement within one service for MPF members, whilst Sun Life Hong Kong Limited continues to operate the tool as part of its wealth and pensions offering.
