Cathay Pacific doubles fuel surcharges as jet fuel price surges

The hike comes into effect on 18 March.

Cathay Pacific will increase fuel surcharges starting 18 March, following a sharp rise in jet fuel prices linked to recent developments in the Middle East.

The surcharge for short-haul flights will rise to $290 from $142, whilst that for medium-haul flights will increase to $541 from $264.

Long-haul flights will see the surcharge rise to $1,164 from $569.

The airline said that jet fuel prices have roughly doubled since March, prompting adjustments under its established surcharge mechanism.

The fuel surcharge applies to all tickets on a per-sector basis, regardless of fare type and is included in fares quoted through the airline’s direct booking channels.

“The fuel surcharge is reviewed regularly and closely tracks the price of refined jet fuel,” Cathay Pacific said.
