BEA, Anchorpoint explore HKD stablecoin payment use cases
They will test commercial applications for regulated tokenised money in Hong Kong.
The Bank of East Asia (BEA) and Anchorpoint Financial have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore real-world applications for HKDAP, Anchorpoint’s regulated Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin.
The partnership will combine Anchorpoint’s stablecoin-issuance capabilities with BEA’s banking services and customer network.
The companies intend to develop secure and compliant financial solutions involving tokenised money, including practical payment and settlement applications.
Zinnser Hong, BEA’s group chief innovation officer, said blockchain technology and tokenisation could help address demand for borderless, round-the-clock digital financial services.
He added that the partnership would support the bank’s digital transformation and contribute to Hong Kong’s development as a digital-asset hub.
Anchorpoint CEO and co-founder Dominic Maffei said regulated tokenised money could support economic activity and provide practical benefits to businesses and other market participants.
Anchorpoint is a joint venture established by Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong, HKT and Animoca Brands in February 2025.
The company received a stablecoin-issuer licence from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority in April 2026. Its initial objective is to develop HKDAP as a tokenised medium of exchange for the digital economy, international payments and capital flows.
The announcement did not disclose specific projects, financial commitments or an implementation timeline. The companies said further details would be announced later.
