New Sheung Wan centre expands Hong Kong’s healthcare reach

It now operates 10 District Health Centres and eight DHC Expresses.

The Hong Kong government has officially opened the Central & Western District Health Centre (DHC), aiming to provide standardised and personalised healthcare services.

Located in Sheung Wan, it is equipped with consultation rooms, an interactive fitness training room, rehabilitation facilities, and smart fitness equipment.

It began serving members in September last year, followed by the commissioning of a satellite centre in Kennedy Town in December.

Hong Kong now operates 10 DHCs and eight DHC Expresses (DHCEs), comprising more than 100 service points citywide.

As of end-June, about 600,000 people had become members across the city's 18 districts.

Under Secretary for Health, Dr Cecilia Fan, noted that primary healthcare expenditure accounts for over 30% of overall Current Health Expenditure.

She said the government aims to raise this to 35%, or even 40%, to build a sustainable healthcare system capable of addressing rising chronic disease rates.

Around 260,000 citizens have joined the Chronic Disease Co-Care Scheme, whilst about 50,000 have undergone free hepatitis B rapid tests under the Hepatitis B Co-Care Scheme since its February launch.

Fan said future services will expand into elderly and women's health.
