The cluster’s key focus areas include sustainable development and energy.

Hong Kong has approved about $2.5b in government funding for eight research centres under SEAM@InnoHK, the third research cluster under the InnoHK initiative.

The cluster, launched by the Innovation & Technology Commission, will focus on sustainable development, energy, advanced manufacturing, and materials.

The centres will conduct research covering next-generation semiconductors, sustainable energy, innovative materials, space manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technologies, and smart energy management.

The facilities are setting up laboratories and are expected to begin operations progressively.

They are led by local and overseas universities and research institutions, with partners from Mainland China, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Japan.
