Port cargo throughput falls 5.6% in Q3

Inward cargo dropped 11% whilst outward shipments rose modestly.

Total port cargo throughput fell 5.6% to 41.3 million tonnes in Q3 2025, according to the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD), after it saw weaker inward port cargo volumes over the period.

Inward cargo decreased 11% to 24.7 million tonnes, outweighing a 3.8% increase in outward cargo to 16.6 million tonnes. Trans-shipment movements also slowed, contributing to the overall contraction in cargo handled.

Container throughput dropped 9.1% to 3.10 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the quarter. Laden containers fell 8.8% to 2.50 million TEUs, with inward laden boxes down 10% and outward laden boxes down 7.4%.

For the first nine months of 2025, total cargo throughput declined 5.7% to 124.8 million tonnes, extending the downward trend observed throughout the year.
