Hong Kong water research centre opens for sustainable marine projects
The facility will stage water quality assessment and push for sustainable fisheries, amongst others.
The National Engineering Research Centre’s marine innovation centre recently opened in Hong Kong as an R&D facility for local and regional marine industries.
Water quality testing and monitoring, marine ecological protection, and promoting the sustainable development of fisheries and marine renewable resources will be conducted in the centre.
It is also equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) powered fully automated testing line, according to a release.
The facility will hold projects across the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, pooling research capabilities from the three regions.
The marine eco-tech innovation centre was established by the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the National Engineering Research Centre for Water Environment Pollution Monitoring.
The centre opened as part of the nation’s “Maritime Power” strategy and the blue economy planning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
