LED lamps now covered by energy efficiency labelling scheme

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department extended the voluntary Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme to cover LED lamps.

The department is inviting manufacturers, importers and local agents of LED lamps to apply for the "Recognition Type" energy label under the voluntary EELS.

To qualify for this type of label, the product should meet the energy efficiency and performance requirements of the scheme. A label will be affixed to the product, informing consumers that it meets a certain standard of energy efficiency. With this information, consumers can make better purchasing decisions.

The EELS aims to help consumers select more energy-efficient products, increase public awareness of the importance of using energy-efficient products, encourage manufacturers and product suppliers to market more energy-efficient products and achieve actual energy savings.

With the inclusion of LED lamps, there are now 19 types of household and office appliances covered by the voluntary EELS.
