One in three Hong Kong users fall for scams despite detection confidence

63% of users reported they reused passwords across multiple sites.

One in three Hong Kong online users fell victim to online scams, despite over half expressing confidence in spotting them, Google said.

In a report, the firm cited unsafe habits, like reusing passwords across multiple sites, were reported by 63% of users.

Identity theft was the most reported scam, with financial loss, personal relationship issues, and data breaches as primary impacts.

Google said over 80% of users acknowledged browser or app warnings about potentially dangerous websites or apps and used strategies like cross-referencing information to avoid scams.
