Gov't eyes technological cooperation in Middle East
Hong Kong companies' technological strengths can offer significant value to the Middle Eastern market.
Chief Executive John Lee is set to lead a delegation that will look into possible areas of cooperation in the tech sector between Hong Kong and the Middle East.
According to a press release, his trip will include visits to Qatar and Kuwait.
Legislative Councillor for the Technology and Innovation Functional Constituency Duncan Chiu said the Middle East is a fertile market for Hong Kong tech companies looking to expand overseas.
Chiu stressed that since both regions rely on imported technology, Hong Kong companies' strengths in artificial intelligence, life sciences, and chip design offer significant value to the Middle Eastern market.
The councillor anticipates the government's new $10b Innovation & Technology Industry-Oriented Fund will attract investments from Qatar and Kuwait into the city’s tech sector.
