Gov’t amends statutory compulsory sale regime

The amendment will take effect on 6 December.

The government has updated the statutory compulsory sale regime by lowering compulsory sale application thresholds effective 6 December.

The Land (Compulsory Sale for Redevelopment) (Amendment) Ordinance will facilitate multiple adjoining-lot compulsory sale applications to streamline the legal process for compulsory sales and enhance support for affected minority owners.

The amendments aim to expedite the consolidation of private property interests for redeveloping old, dilapidated buildings. It will also address safety risks, improve livelihoods, and enhance the legal protection of minority owners’ interests.

In addition, the Dedicated Office of Support Services for Minority Owners (DOSS) and the Support Service Centre for Minority Owners (SMOCS) under Compulsory Sale are now operational.

The SMOCS, supervised by the DOSS, offers one-stop enhanced support services to minority owners throughout the compulsory sale application process, helping them understand their statutory rights.
