HK sees sharpest drop in software developer demand in 2024: report

This is the highest in the region.

Hong Kong saw the sharpest decline in demand (90%) for software developers between 2022 and 2024, the highest in Asia, according to a Hays report.

The report linked this to automation and talent redeployment. This also extends to China, which saw a 71% decline over the same period.

Whilst 53% of professionals in Hong Kong use artificial intelligence tools at work, only 33% have received training to use such tools.

Furthermore, 46% of professionals do not use AI tools due to a lack of understanding, support or training.
