Nearly 15% of HK adults lag in physical activity: report

However, the health department noted an improvement in inactivity levels compared to 2020-22.

About 14.8% of adults aged 18 or above in Hong Kong performed insufficient physical activity, failing to meet the World Health Organisation’s recommendations, according to the Health Department’s  ‘Report of Health Behaviour Survey 2023’.

However, the department noted an improvement in physical inactivity levels compared to the 2020-22 Population Health Survey (PHS), likely linked to the resumption of normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the majority (97%) had an inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables, while the proportion of those aged 15 or above engaging in monthly binge drinking rose from 2% in the 2020-22 PHS to 2.7%.

The proportion of people aged 50 to 75 screened for colorectal cancer rose to 46.2%, whilst cervical screening amongst women aged 25 to 64 dropped to 49.8%.

The survey was conducted between July and November 2023 with over 4,800 land-based non-institutional population of Hong Kong aged 15 or above were interviewed.
