Unemployment rate up 3.4% in Feb-Apr 2025

Total employment decreased by around 15,600.

The rate of jobless people in Hong Kong rose to 3.4% in the February to April 2025 period, compared to 3.2% in the January to March period, according to the latest data from the Census & Statistics Department (C&SD).

The underemployment rate also rose to 1.3% in Feb-April, compared to 1.1% in the Jan-March period.

Total employment decreased by around 15,600 to 3.67 million, from 3.69 million in the previous three-month period.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said that various industries in Hong Kong are undergoing a “transitional period”, which may result in their unemployment rates going up or down.

“However, the recent easing of trade tensions, the continued growth in the mainland economy, the government’s various measures to boost economic momentum and the continuous positive growth of the overall economy will provide support to the labour market,” Sun said.
