Govt launches Smart Site Safety System Labelling Scheme for site workers

The scheme seeks to ensure a safe work environment for site workers.

The government has launched the Smart Site Safety System Labelling Scheme (4S Labelling Scheme) along with a series of relevant measures to promote the adoption of 4S for a safe working environment for site workers.

The Buildings Department will also introduce a mandatory measure on 1 July to require the adoption of 4S to provide qualified supervision of building works when granting the first approval or major revisions of superstructure plans of private development projects.

Registered contractors undertaking building works exceeding $30m and involving mobile plant use and tower cranes will be required to adopt relevant 4S alert systems.

The scheme will designate approved sites for proper 4S usage. Approximately 500 worksites, accounting for 60% of all existing construction worksites, are expected to participate. Labels will be issued to the initial batch of around 100 worksites in July.

The Construction Innovation & Technology Fund will support additional expenses for adopting 4S, including upgrading the network capacity and providing additional manpower for maintenance and technical support.
