HKIA sees record passenger and flight movements in December

In December, passenger volume increased 1.7 times YoY to 4.3 million.

Hong Kong International Airport’s  (HKIA) passenger numbers and flight movements reached new post-pandemic heights in December.

Last month, passenger numbers increased 1.7 times YoY to 4.3 million, whilst flight movements rose 89% YoY to 30,000, exceeding 80% of the pre-pandemic level.

Given the record numbers in December, the total passenger count in HKIA soared 600% YoY to 40 million in 2023, whilst flight movements rose by 100% YoY to 276,000.

By the end of 2024, HKIA expects passenger traffic to fully recover to the pre-pandemic level.

Meanwhile, HKIA’s total cargo throughput also recorded annual growth in 2023, jumping 3.2% to 4.3 million tonnes.

In December alone, cargo throughput increased by 19.3% YoY to 418,000 tonnes.
