Wah Kwong NatPower, CKS to advance Hong Kong water transport electrification
The partnership will explore electric vessels, charging networks, and battery-swap systems.
Wah Kwong NatPower Holdings has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises Group to advance the electrification of Hong Kong–Guangdong inland water transport.
CKS is a subsidiary of Guangdong Provincial Port & Shipping Group. The agreement establishes a cooperation framework for both parties to explore projects linked to Hong Kong’s waterborne transport electrification.
Under the MoU, the companies will discuss electric vessel construction, technology innovation, charging and battery-swap networks at Guangdong–Hong Kong terminals, and the broader promotion of water transport electrification in Hong Kong.
The partnership comes as the shipping industry accelerates its green and low-carbon transition. Wah Kwong NatPower said the Greater Bay Area is advancing electric vessel deployment whilst building supporting green energy infrastructure.
The companies said charging and battery-swapping standardisation will be important to enable seamless cross-regional operations and address energy replenishment challenges.
Following the agreement, both parties will establish a joint working group to structure collaboration, identify priority opportunities, accelerate project development, and bring forward practical infrastructure solutions.
