New license fees for private electric cars take effect 1 November
EVs’ annual licence fees are adjusted based on their rated power until February 2027.
Restructured license fees for newly registered electric private cars (e-PC) will take effect on Saturday, 1 November 2025, the Transport Department (TD) said.
Under the new fee structure, the annual licence fee of e-PCs from 1 November 2025 to 28 February 2027 will be adjusted in accordance with the e-PCs’ rated power in kilowatts (kW).
E-PCs with up to 75kW, more than 75kW to 125kW, and more than 125kW to 175kW will be subjected to fees worth $1,500, $2,000, and $2,500, respectively.
Licence fees for e-PCs with over 175kW to 225kW and over 225kW are rated at $3,000 and $5,000, respectively.
Aside from new e-PCs, renewal of vehicle licenses for existing ones will be granted a four-month grace period. Vehicles owned by the disabled will be offered licence fee concessions.
Automotive trades and vehicle dealers have been reminded of the new licence fee structure through letters, TD said.
The structure aims to promote electric vehicle adoption for environmental protection, it added.
