US port fees discriminatory, divide maritime community: gov’t
Hong Kong described the US’s actions as bullying.
The government of Hong Kong has said that the US’s port fees against Chinese-owned vessels not only discriminate but also split the international maritime community.
In a statement, the government noted that under the unique institutional strengths of “one country, two systems”, Hong Kong has long provided an open, level, efficient, and well-regulated business environment for shipping enterprises to operate in.
Hong Kong said that despite the US’s “bullying,” it will continue to work with global maritime partners to safeguard free trade principles and promote the healthy development of the international shipping industry.
“Only by adhering to the principles of fairness, justice, mutual benefits and win-win co-operation can the common interests of the global maritime community be truly protected,” it added.
