Security Bureau convenes task force to tackle illegal employment
Key focus areas include developing response strategies, improving intelligence gathering, and information sharing.
The Security Bureau convened the task force for its first meeting, tackling illegal employment, following its formation last month.
During the meeting, members reviewed the current illegal-employment situation and agreed to strengthen interdepartmental coordination.
Key focus areas include developing response strategies, improving intelligence gathering and information sharing—including with Mainland counterparts—enhancing law enforcement, applying technological tools, and launching coordinated publicity and education campaigns.
The task force brings together officials from across government, including the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Education Bureau, Transport and Logistics Bureau, Immigration Department, Police Force, Labour Department, and Transport Department.
Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung, who chairs the task force, said the initiative reflects the government’s “commitment and determination to combat illegal employment.”
He encouraged members of the public to report suspected cases through the Immigration Department’s Dedicated Hotline (3861 5000).
Since its launch approximately two weeks ago, the hotline has received over 100 reports. Going forward, the task force plans to focus its enforcement efforts on key industries and specific sectors where illegal employment risks are highest.
