Hong Kong offers 535 market stalls for December public auction

The auctions will cover cooked food, fresh meat, seafood, fresh produce and other sundry trade categories.

535 public market stalls across 42 locations will be auctioned in December, according to the Hongkong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD). The stalls will be offered under three-year fixed tenancies commencing 1 January with no renewal rights.

The auctions will cover cooked food, fresh meat, seafood, fresh produce and other sundry trade categories. Stalls not taken up during the auctions will be made available for rental on 23 December 2025 on a first-come basis, subject to set vacancy criteria.

Monthly rents for unsold stalls will be pegged to the open market rent, according to the FEHD announcement. Stalls vacant for more than six months will be priced at 80% of the open market rent, while those vacant for more than eight months will be set at 60%.

Bidders must be at least 18 years old and ordinarily resident in Hong Kong. Existing tenants under the current tenancy scheme must surrender their stalls before taking up new tenancies, and a cap will apply to prevent individuals from securing multiple stalls within the same market.
