Hong Kong Deputy SJ discusses legal advancements in The Hague
Secretary Cheung exchanged ideas on developments of doing arbitrations
Hong Kong Deputy Justice Secretary Cheung Kwok-kwan discussed the city’s legal developments during his visit to The Hague in the Netherlands.
During his tour inside the United Nations International Court of Justice, he exchanged views regarding using various resolution mechanisms in handling international disputes with judges Xue Hanqin and Hilary Charlesworth.
He said that Hong Kong, the centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, will continue to organise capacity-building activities and academic conferences to nurture legal talent.

Secretary Cheung also discussed the future developments of doing arbitrations with Permanent Court of Arbitration Secretary-General Hab Marcin Czepelak during his visit to the court.
There he highlighted that Hong Kong has an established comprehensive framework for mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters with the Mainland under “one country, two systems.”
He also said that the city had concluded three legal arrangements with Mainland China, including one that concerns mutual enforcement of arbitral awards and mutual assistance in court-ordered interim measures for arbitral proceedings.
