HK’s first Chinese medicine hospital to open in December
It will operate 25 day-patient beds in the first year.
The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) at 1 Pak Shing Kok Road, Tseung Kwan O, will begin operations in phases starting December 11, becoming the city’s first hospital to focus primarily on chinese medicine (CM) services.
Health Secretary Professor Lo Chung-mau said the hospital will expand CM’s role in Hong Kong from primary healthcare to secondary and tertiary care.
He added that the hospital will serve as a “change driver” for CM development in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and internationally.
In its first year, CMHHK will provide outpatient and day-patient services and launch six specialised CM services: internal medicine, external medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics and traumatology, and acupuncture and moxibustion.
It will also introduce 12 special disease programmes, including treatments for elderly degenerative diseases and stroke rehabilitation.
The hospital will operate 25 day-patient beds in the first year and is expected to offer inpatient services from the second year.
By 2030, it plans to have 400 inpatient beds and handle 400,000 outpatient visits annually.
Government-subsidised services will make up 65% of the hospital’s total service volume and will be available to eligible Hong Kong residents.
The hospital will adopt transparent fee models, including package and simplified itemised charges, along with a fee waiver mechanism for specified patient groups and those in financial need.
To promote its services, CMHHK will offer a 10% to 30% discount on designated treatments during its first year.
Appointments open on 1 November via the hospital’s website or by calling 3121 3121, with mobile app bookings available from 1 December.
