HK, Mainland unveil plan to boost tech collaboration in 2024-25
It will support Hong Kong’s growth as an international innovation hub.
The Mainland-Hong Kong Science and Technology Cooperation Committee has announced its 2024-2025 workplan focused on bolstering collaboration in key innovation and technology (I&T) areas.
The plan aligns with the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint, emphasising support for Hong Kong's growth as an international innovation hub.
Efforts will accelerate the Hong Kong Park in the Loop project, enhance new industrialisation, and facilitate cross-boundary data sharing in scientific research.
National science and technology programmes will further open up to Hong Kong scientists, encouraging their participation in significant national research initiatives.
There is also a commitment to increase support for emerging scientists through joint funding and research schemes, such as the 2025 Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme in partnership with the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The committee plans to integrate more Hong Kong experts into national science and technology expert and award databases, and encourage participation in the China Association for Science and Technology's societies. Hong Kong will be supported in organising science and technology forums, exhibitions, and attracting global research talent.
Efforts to consolidate State Key Laboratories in Hong Kong into the national framework and deepen cross-boundary collaboration among tech and industrial parks are also outlined. Key initiatives include promoting the Greater Bay Area's innovation flow and advancing projects like the Northern Metropolis development and the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Zone.
The Innovation and Technology Commission, together with government bodies, universities, and research institutions, will continue to strengthen I&T collaboration with the Mainland to achieve these goals.
