HK bans poultry imports from Poland, Germany over H5N1
Suspension is effective immediately.
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has announced the suspension of poultry meat and eggs imports from specific regions in Poland and Germany following reports of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks.
The outbreaks were reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland in the Ostrzeszowski District of the Wielkopolskie Region, and by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in the Greiz District of Thüringen, Germany.
A CFS spokesperson said that, according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported approximately 1,730 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland and about 30 tonnes from Germany in the first half of this year.
The CFS said it is in contact with authorities in both countries and will monitor the situation closely, taking further action as needed.
