Gov't rolls out 30 measures to boost silver economy
Plans include launching exhibitions and introducing retail concessions.
Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing has announced 30 new measures to promote Hong Kong’s silver economy.
The plan targets five areas, namely increasing elderly consumption, developing the silver industry, ensuring product quality, improving financial support, and boosting senior productivity.
To drive silver consumption, the government will launch exhibitions, retail concessions, e-commerce platforms, and a Silver Summit, alongside catering initiatives and stronger consumer protections for seniors.
The plan also focuses on expanding silver products, including health and gerontechnology items, whilst improving quality assurance to build trust and grow sales.
With many seniors holding financial assets, the government aims to help them better manage and protect their finances.
To increase silver productivity, employment support, training, and elderly-friendly workplace policies will be promoted to encourage more seniors to work.
Cheuk said the silver economy offers “tremendous business opportunities” and expects these measures to improve seniors’ quality of life and happiness.
