Hong Kong forms committee for Intellectual Property Academy

It will provide workplace-based training to support the city’s development.

The Hong Kong government has established a steering committee to guide the development and implementation of its Intellectual Property Academy Pilot Programme.

The committee’s chairman, vice-chairman and members will serve two-year terms beginning on October 1.

The Intellectual Property Department and Vocational Training Council are collaborating to establish the academy, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of the year.

The initiative was announced in Hong Kong’s 2026-27 Budget.

The academy will provide more systematic and recognized on-the-job intellectual property training to a wider range of workers.

The government expects the initiative to expand Hong Kong’s intellectual property talent pool and support its development as a regional intellectual property trading center.

The steering committee brings together representatives from the government, industry and other professional sectors.

It will advise on the pilot programme and help ensure that its training responds directly to industry requirements.
