Contractor in Sau Mau Ping construction incident suspended from public tenders

It must implement safety measures for the suspension to be lifted, the Development Bureau said.

A contractor involved in a fatal incident at a construction site in Sau Mau Ping on 2 November was suspended by the Development Bureau from tendering for public works contracts.

The contractor, working in the non-government site, must conduct an independent safety review and implement new safety measures before its suspension can be lifted, the bureau said.

It is also suspended from tender exercises within the suspension period and from exercises that it has initiated but not concluded, the bureau added.

The Labour Department is also investigating the incident.

Depending on the investigation findings, the bureau may impose further sanctions on the contractor, extend its suspension period, or remove it from contractor approval, it said.
