Hong Kong factory growth steadies at 0.9% in Q2

Hong Kong’s manufacturing sector recorded modest growth in the second quarter of 2025, with the index of industrial production rising 0.9% YoY, according to the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD).

Producer prices in the manufacturing sector climbed 4.0% in the same period, following a 4.8% increase in the first quarter, the C&SD said.
Within individual industries, output increases were reported in food, beverages and tobacco (+2.0%); paper products, printing and recorded media (+1.5%); and metal, computer, electronic and optical products as well as machinery and equipment (+0.2%).
In contrast, textiles and wearing apparel posted a sharp decline of 5.7%.
After seasonal adjustment, manufacturing output rose 0.3% in the second quarter compared with the previous quarter.
Producer prices rose across all major manufacturing industries. The largest increase was recorded in metal, computer, electronic and optical products, as well as machinery and equipment (+7.2%).
Textiles and wearing apparel rose 2.1%, paper products, printing and recorded media gained 1.1%, and food, beverages and tobacco edged up 0.7%.
The waste management sector also registered growth, with its industrial production index up 1.5% YoY and producer prices rising 1.6% in the second quarter.
