Unemployment rate flat at 2.8% in April-June

This translates to 112,400 unemployed persons.

Hong Kong’s employment market remained tight as unemployment levels registered another three months of flat growth at 2.8% in April-June which is the same as that in March-May, according to the Census & Statistics Department.

This translates to 112,400 unemployed persons.

Total employment edged up from 3.86 million in March - May to 3.87 million in April - June along with the labour force which hit 3.98 million.

Underemployment levels also remained unchanged at 1% in April-June with 41,400 underemployed persons.

"On a year-on-year comparison to net out seasonal fluctuations, most of the major service sectors witnessed improvement in unemployment situation, particularly so in the trade- and tourism-related industries such as import and export trade, retail, and accommodation services,” secretary for labour and welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong said in a statement.
