Hong Kong sees 1.64M visitors over Golden Week and mid-autumn break
Over 1.4 million visitors were from the Mainland.
Hong Kong recorded about 1.64 million visitors during the National Day Golden Week and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period, according to the interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements.
The working group said that the number of visitors recorded during Golden Week is at a satisfactory level, despite being affected by a typhoon.
Of the 1.64 million arrivals, more than 1.4 million were from the Mainland.
Mainland visitor arrivals peaked at over 230,000 on 1 October. Hotel occupancy rate during this period averaged around 90%.
Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki, who heads the working group, noted that this year’s Golden Week coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival, offering a wide array of activities throughout the holiday period.
The National Day fireworks display on 1 October drew more than 340,000 spectators at Victoria Harbour.
Around 100,000 attended the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, and over 380,000 people visited the Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival at Victoria Park over eight days.
In addition, roughly 12,100 visitors also went to the High Island Reservoir East Dam, where authorities reported that transport and crowd management ran smoothly.
During the holiday, around 1,300 Mainland tour groups visited Hong Kong, bringing nearly 49,000 people.
About 60% of these visitors stayed overnight. The number of tour groups was 24% higher than during last year’s seven-day Golden Week.
