HK government vows to support tourism

Hong Kong is committed to tourism development and will invest in new facilities, attractions and tourism infrastructure.

This was stated by Financial Secretary John TsangHe while speaking at the 2011 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade outside the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui tonight.

“Last year we welcomed a record 36 million visitors. That is more than five times our population. It underlines Hong Kong’s appeal as a tourist destination. The Hong Kong Government is committed to supporting the development of our tourism industry,” he said. “We seek to invest in new facilities, attractions and tourism infrastructure. We also provide the Mega Events Fund to support major cultural and sports events that are staged here.”

The parade, organised by the Tourism Board, is in its 16th year and is a key event in the city’s Lunar New Year celebrations. With the theme of “World City World Party”, the parade highlights Hong Kong’s international connectivity and cosmopolitan lifestyle, as well as its great cultural diversity.
