Government to review Hong Kong tourism regulation

The Government wants to establish a regulation system which can maintain the trade's long-term development and protect tourist rights, said Mr Yung.

According to Hong Kong Information Services Department, Commissioner for Tourism Philip Yung says the Government will review the regulation of Hong Kong's tourism, adding a document outlining the scope of the review and feasible proposals will be tabled at the Legislative Council by the end of the month.

The Travel Industry Council's role and its relation with the Government will be studied, he said. "The Government will adopt an open attitude when discussing the issue. We will also listen to the public and the trade's views."

The commissioner said 10 new measures have recently been introduced to regulate how travel agencies receive Mainland tour groups in Hong Kong. The Government will work closely with the Travel Industry Council to ensure the proper implementation of the measures.

Regarding the divergent views on the subject, Mr Yung said members of the trade share the same goal and should work together to tackle the issue.
