Golden Week visitors rise 8% to 1.19 million
Mainland arrivals reached 1.01 million.
Hong Kong received around 1.19 million visitors during the Mainland’s Labour Day Golden Week from May 1 to 5, up 8% from the same period last year.
Mainland visitors accounted for most arrivals, reaching around 1.01 million, a 10% YoY increase. The daily average stood at about 200,000 Mainland visitors, with arrivals peaking on May 2 at around 260,000.
The government said the increase directly supported local businesses, including retail, catering, and hotels.
Some shopping malls reported double-digit year-on-year growth in consumption across retail categories, whilst catering businesses in tourist areas saw business rise by about 20%.
Hotel occupancy reached 90%, slightly higher than last year, whilst hotel prices rose 10% compared with past long holidays.
Around 820 Mainland inbound tour groups brought more than 32,000 visitors to Hong Kong, with about 60% joining overnight itineraries.
The government said traffic conditions were generally smooth during the holiday, with crowd control, transport, and cleaning measures implemented at popular attractions, including Sai Kung, High Island Reservoir, and Po Pin Chau.
Authorities recorded 19 enforcement cases involving littering and illegal camping outside designated campsites.
