Restaurant receipts hit $109.6b in 2025 as Q4 value rises 0.9%
The C&SD recorded a mixed performance as restaurant receipts ticks higher in Q4.
The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) released provisional figures for the restaurant sector in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025, with the value of total receipts reaching $27.8b, representing a 0.9% year-on-year increase.
The value of total purchases by restaurants rose 2.5% to $9.1b during the period, according to a press release.
For the full year of 2025, the provisional estimate of total restaurant receipts reached $109.6b, marking a 0.2% increase in value, whilst recording a 0.9% decrease in volume.
Over the same period, total purchases for the year reached $35.0b, down 0.3% from 2024, the C&SD said.
The seasonally adjusted series showed a 2.6% increase in value and a 1.8% rise in volume in Q4 2025, whilst the volume of total receipts remained broadly in line with Q4 2024.
An analysis by restaurant type showed mixed results for the quarter. Non-Chinese restaurant receipts increased 4.0% in value and 3.1% in volume, whilst Chinese restaurant receipts rose 0.3% in value but fell 1.0% in volume.
Bars recorded a 1.5% increase in both value and volume, whilst fast food shop receipts fell 0.4% in value and 1.7% in volume. Miscellaneous eating and drinking places posted a 4.2% decline in value and a 5.7% drop in volume.
Monthly estimates for Q4 2025 showed fluctuations. Receipts increased 3.9% in October, fell 0.6% in November, and dipped 0.5% in December.
After removing price changes, the volume of receipts rose 2.6% in October but fell 1.8% in November and 1.5% in December.
A government spokesman said the value of total restaurant receipts resumed growth in Q4. Improving local consumption sentiment and employment earnings will support business activity, whilst sustained growth in inbound visitors will also underpin the sector.
