MTR Corporation wins Hong Kong Business Management Excellence Awards 2026 for AI Foundation Platform

It is empowering employees to build AI solutions through a secure, enterprise-wide platform.

MTR Corporation has been awarded Employee Engagement of the Year - Transportation at the Hong Kong Business Management Excellence Awards 2026, recognising its development of the AI Foundation Platform (AIFP) - a secure, enterprise-grade AI platform designed to empower employees to develop and deploy AI-driven solutions in support of daily operations.

MTR Corporation is committed to leveraging technology and AI to drive operational efficiency, enhance service excellence, and support our colleagues in their daily work. AIFP provides an agile and governed foundation that enables non-technical business users to transform internal knowledge into AI-powered chatbots, whilst operating within MTR’s corporate standards for security, data protection, and responsible AI use. By lowering technical barriers, the platform allows employees closest to operational challenges to actively participate in innovation and problem-solving.

Amongst early applications of AIFP, cross-departmental MTR teams collaborated to develop AI chatbot to enable MTR volunteers to provide support to Hong Kong citizens and visitors during the National Games period in 2025. The initiative highlighted how employees from different functions can co-create AI solutions to address real operational needs.

The development of AIFP began in 2023 as MTR Corporation started to explore the use of generative AI to enhance work productivity and address real business needs. Feedback from employees highlighted the need for a more accessible, user-friendly platform enabling business teams to create AI-enabled solutions without heavy reliance on technical development resources. AIFP was designed to this need whilst ensuring scalability, reuse, and strong governance.

MTR’s recognition reflects its commitment to fostering a culture where employees are empowered with the tools, governance, and confidence to innovate responsibly. Through AIFP, MTR has established a scalable foundation that supports employee-led problem-solving whilst aligning with enterprise standards for security and accountability.
