Hong Kong emerges as 10th most globalised market

In 2023 edition of the index, Hong Kong ranked 31st out of 181 markets.

Hong Kong placed 10th in DHL's Global Connectedness Index, which ranks 181 markets based on their international flows.

Compared to 2017, however, the city's ranking fell by four places.

In the index, markets are scored based on two dimensions: depth or their international flows relative to total activity and breadth or the distribution of international flows across countries.

Hong Kong scored 85.3 over 100 in the depth dimension, ranking fourth overall.

On the breadth dimension, Hong Kong scored 53.8, ranking 63 overall.

Since 2017, Hong Kong’s connectedness level has fallen by 2.5 points, making it the market with the eighth-largest connectedness decrease.

China has the biggest share in Hong Kong’s international trade flows at 61%, followed by United States (5%), Taiwan (4%), Singapore (3%), Japan (3%), Korea, Republic of (2%), United Kingdom (2%), India (2%), Malaysia (1%), and Australia (1%).
