The Hong Kong & China Gas Co., Ltd triumphs at Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards

The company’s proactive recommendations improved customer experience and operational performance.

The Hong Kong & China Gas Co., Ltd received the AI - Energy category at the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for its Next-Gen Appliance Renewal Program. The project applied predictive analytics to identify appliance replacement opportunities across sales, service, and digital channels, replacing a process that had largely depended on customer enquiries or staff observations.

Its AI model analysed customer and operational data to identify appliances that might require replacement. The resulting recommendations helped teams approach customers at more relevant points in the appliance lifecycle. This changed the renewal process from reactive service delivery to planned engagement based on identified needs.

The programme connected predictive insights with customer-facing channels, including sales interactions, service visits, and digital platforms. Staff could prioritise likely renewal opportunities and provide recommendations based on available data. Customers also received information earlier, reducing reliance on appliance failure or service disruption as the trigger for replacement.

Predictive analytics supported maintenance planning, inspection activities, and risk identification. The project also improved the use of internal resources by directing attention towards cases with stronger replacement potential. These changes contributed to higher conversion performance, lower operating costs, and improvements in customer satisfaction without altering the company’s existing service channels.

The initiative supported the company’s customer relationship management transformation. Its structure allowed the AI model and engagement process to be refined as more information became available. Appliance replacement also formed part of the project’s environmental, social, and governance focus. Earlier identification of ageing appliances encouraged timely renewal and supported the use of more efficient products.

The programme provided a practical link between customer service, operational planning, and appliance management.
