Cathay Cargo restarts Bangkok freighter service after 10 years
Weekly flight adds capacity for Thai exports via Hong Kong connectivity.
Cathay Cargo launched a weekly freighter service to Bangkok on 6 May, restoring its dedicated cargo operations to the city after a decade.
The service operates every Wednesday using a Boeing 747-400F from Hong Kong, providing additional uplift for Thai exporters and freight forwarders, and complementing existing bellyhold capacity on Cathay Pacific passenger flights.
Cathay Cargo said the freighter adds flexibility for general cargo and selected special shipments, including outsized freight, high-density cargo, and eligible dangerous goods.
Ashish Kapur, Cathay Regional Head of Cargo, Southeast Asia & Oceania, said the service strengthens Thailand’s cargo connectivity and supports exporters using Hong Kong as a centre.
The airline said Bangkok remains a key market, with more than 29,000 tonnes of cargo carried from Thailand in 2025 across general goods, time-sensitive shipments, and special cargo.
It added that Hong Kong connectivity provides onward access to North America and mainland China.
Cathay Pacific also announced that it will also adjust boarding and gate closure times from 1 June.
Gate closure will be moved to 15 minutes before departure, whilst boarding will start five minutes earlier at Hong Kong International Airport.
The airline said the changes are aimed at improving punctuality and reducing delays linked to late passenger arrivals.
