Door did not open midflight on Emirates flight to Hong Kong

Emirates denies UK reports that a door on one of its Airbus A380s opened in midflight.

It also denied there was loss of cabin pressure during the flight. The airline refuted stories that the door of Flight EK384 between Bangkok and Hong Kong opened mid-air, adding that at no point was the safety of the flight in jeopardy.

“At no time during the flight did one of the upper deck doors open. There was also no loss in cabin pressurization at any time during the flight,” a spokesperson said.

UK media reported last week that one of doors of an Emirates A380 was torn from the aircraft at an altitude of 27,000ft. Media reported accounts by passengers of a complete panic on the plane as the door was flung off. One alleged eyewitness said the emergency door was ajar and left a gaping hole that allowed him to see straight out into the atmosphere, 27,000ft up.

Emirates said the noise from the door was caused by a small dimensional difference between the inflated door seal and the door lower frame striker plate, when the door is in the closed position. This is now under investigation in conjunction with Airbus.
